# 6 Blog- Growing my PLN

While I was looking to expand my professional learning network on LinkedIn, I found one exceptional group that caught my attention. ASTD (American Society for Training and Development) is an association that was started in 1943 and has committed to provide cutting edge, effective resources for training professionals. They  focus on workplace learning, training and development, instructional design, and many other professional techniques. I chose this group because they focus on many different insights on career development.

The @eLearning_softw twitter page provides a regular insight into combining effective training techniques and delivery with cutting edge technology. They have a large group of professionals following their daily insightful tweets. Staying up to date on E-Learning trends is critical to maximizing it's benefit. Upon exploring the followers of @eLearning_softw, I came across @diannehope. @diannehope has been actively involved in training, development and knowledge management since 2007. She is a regular contributor and I expect to see many interesting articles linked on her twitter feed. With her long term interest and involvement in instruction delivery it makes sense she would be following @eLearning_softw to further expand her knowledge.

  1. In today’s era of Information Technology, building a PLN is very inevitable for sustaining in the present environment. The idea of building the PLN through Twitter impressed me a great deal. Talking about the group you’ve mentioned, I personally think that this association will be very benevolent for learning professional skills, and to support my answer, I have some sound arguments. The community is pretty old, so it means that it would have strong roots in the industry. Secondly, the society has the aim to provide valuable skills regarding career development. I think that it will be quite good to comment on the twitter page you mentioned. Although the page has the ability to guide people about training, development, and knowledge, yet I think that twitter is not that effective in building a PLN, as Pinterest is.

  2. The group you joined on LinkedIn sounds really beneficial to be a part of for insight into training and development. The ASTD is actually an organization I've looked to for trends in the field, but I've never used LinkedIn to do so. Was there a specific aspect of career development that they discussed that peaked your interest? The eLearning page you're following in Twitter also sounds intriguing. Was there something about this page that caught your eye specifically?
